No Home for Neptune Scars – Fiendmaster Minutes

There’s a saying that no battle plan survives an encounter with the enemy. The same can be said for any publishing schedule I attempt to adhere to. There are so many bits and pieces beyond my control that I can only guesstimate as to when something will be ready. Life happens to everyone and it can wreck the best of plans. So can assumptions.

Early this year, I assumed that the next installment of Sol and Beyond had a publisher and all was well. Unfortunately, my publisher and I were unable to agree to terms and now the followup trilogy to The Derelict Saga has no home. This also means I won’t have a book published this quarter which affects this year’s master plans in multiple ways. Some of y’all will be happy to hear what I’m going to say next.

There are three books remaining in The Black series. The first editions have all been republished as second editions, they have been newly edited and their covers redesigned. In short, this year’s goal for that series has been accomplished. So what’s left?

The fourth book in the series, Evolution, which was once upon a time podcasted to the masses, is now ready for professional editing as well as artwork and the like. However, editing and artwork costs money and I hadn’t budgeted to publish four novels through my imprint this year, only three.

Because I had already planned to publish An Ancient Trap in fourth quarter this year, it’s been professionally edited and now awaits cover art and designs. It’ll be the final book published in 2023, but, as soon as I have the cashola, Evolution will be at my editor and the artwork will be underway.

That means that come first quarter 2024, early first quarter if all goes well, I’ll begin dropping the last three books in the series. The new schedule is for Oceania in q2 of 2024 with Extinction debuting on Black Friday in November of next year. It’ll take a while to save up for the editing and artwork, so these dates might change, but that is the plan.

In short, 2024 will be the year of The Black.

I have an idea of what will be published in q3 of 2024, but I’m keeping that to myself for now. I mean, I have to have some secrets, right?

So, you want the good news about this situation? It means I’m working on Extinction right now. In fact, I’m on a break from rereading the current draft soup to nuts. In the past several days, I’ve re-read Evolution and Oceania, editing each of them as I went. This last read? This should catch me up so that I can begin writing the last leg of the book. At least I think it’s the last leg. You never know with M2.

Once I finish Extinction and it goes through another draft or two, I’ll be recording it for my Patreon, BMAC, and Ko-fi patrons. Y’all should be able to start listening nearly a year before it’s published publicly. I’ll make a wide-ranging announcement when it’s ready.

Now that you’re all caught up, I reckon it’s time for me to get back to work.

Cheers.
