A little question about music…

black-podcast-imageFor those of you that’ve been listening to the podcast presentation of The Black, I’d like some feedback from you regarding the music I play for certain scenes in the book. Whenever the narrator takes us down to the ocean floor, I have a piece of music (thank you Kevin McLeod) that I play. Is it effective? Does it distract from the narration, or does it add to it?
Wondering about this because I plan on continuing to use the same score for the rest of those type scenes. Also considering mood music for later in the book. This will be doubly important when the book is released via audible.
Thoughts?

  1. I’m just listening to the first episode. I’ll let you know when I get to the bottom of the sea.:) But I usually like a little ambiance in podcasts.

  2. No, keep with the music, it adds a sense of continuity to the scenes, giving a sense of location. If you are going to add more just keep the level low, like in the ep8 intro, so that it is a nice key for the piece. Having a silent background during the narration with the good audio, and no hum or other noise is very nice as well.

  3. I think the music is nice and atmospheric. Sometimes the stabs between scene changes can be a little repetetive, but it does it’s job nicely and doesn’t detract from the overall feel.
Loving it so far, keep up the great work!

  4. I feel that the music in most of your audio stories is a subtle effect. The same exact difference between an audio drama and an audio book. I like both, but the audio drama is richer in experience than the audio book. listening to most of your audio stories they sound like audio dramas especially The Black, interlopers, and closet treats.
